Sunset Landscape Painting

This class will focus on capturing the vivid light of a sunset in oils using a photographic reference. Students will learn how to use glazing and scumbling to create optical color effects. Selecting the right brushes, semi-opaque layering and the strategic use of various color harmonies will be explored resulting in a breathtaking landscape painting.

Oil Colors:
Titanium White
Cadmium Yellow Light
Naples Yellow
Yellow Ochre
Transparent Red Oxide
Vermillion or Cadmium Red Medium
Carmine Lake
Cobalt Blue
Indigo Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Raw Umber
Ivory Black

Additional Supplies:
Primed wooden panel or canvas (approximately 16 x 20 inches)
Assorted brushes (filberts, flats, rounds & liners)
Palette knife
A soft rag or paper towels

Mediums:
Refined Linseed Oil
Oil of Spike Lavender or other odorless solvent
